When Jensen Fisher is left as the sole beneficiary of her grandparents' will, she finds herself spending the summer before college cleaning out their estate in California. As family secrets begin to emerge and her estranged mother shows up demanding her share of the inheritance, Jensen finds herself in need of an escape.

After unexpectedly reconnecting with friends from her past she quickly finds herself shucking responsibility and agreeing to spend part of her summer at their lake house in the small mountain town of Evergreen. Nicole, once her best friend, has no interest in reconnecting. Andrew, her first crush, might have a little too much interest in reconnecting. And Grayson, the boy she always overlooked, is impossible to overlook anymore.

As Grayson teaches Jensen how to embrace life, the adventurous side of herself begins to reemerge. In Evergreen she can be wild and carefree, but only for so long before reality begins to creep in. Her future is already planned out and this version of herself might not fit the mold.

Andrew Reese thought football was his future. When that didn’t pan out, he tried working for his father in the high stress world of finance. Finally, he’s found his place–firefighting. The crew offers a brotherhood that he hasn’t felt since quitting football. To top it off, he’s able to live in Evergreen, the same small town as his family. Life is finally going his way, or at least it was until a girl from his past shows up in his town.

Samantha has a chip on her shoulder and a comeback for all of his lines. No matter what he tries, she refuses to fall for his charm again and Andrew can’t figure out why. The way he remembers it, the summer they spent together was the best of his life, but she refuses to acknowledge their past or even admit that it happened. Meanwhile, Andrew is determined to remind her. After all, he’s not about to let the girl that got away do it again.

After years of struggling, working three jobs, and barely getting by, Nicole is giving up on her dream and moving back home. Her life is a mess. She's twenty-six and back at her parent’s house. Meanwhile, her perfect brothers are both thriving in stable jobs and healthy relationships, neither of which she’s ever had. Talk about feeling like a failure.

There is one positive about returning home, it will give her a chance to make amends for the way she left things with her brother's best friend, Brent. When she left six years ago, it broke both their hearts. But, in true hot mess fashion, less than forty-eight hours after arriving home in Evergreen, Nicole finds herself not in Brent's bed, but Davis', her broody neighbor who also happens to be nine years older than her. It was a mistake, a one time thing, except, it leads to a proposal Nicole can’t pass up, the kind that comes on one knee.

When Nicole discovers a secret from Davis’ past, she’s determined to find out more but Davis is mysterious and secretive and it takes all her strength plus a crow bar to get him to open up. As she digs, the truth isn’t the only thing being revealed, so are her feelings. But, how do you tell your fake husband you want something real when you already agreed to his terms?

Inside the world of Evergreen

While the lake and town of Evergreen are both fictional, they are heavily based on the real lake I grew up going to in Northern California. Lake Almanor and the nearby town of Chester are where I spent all the summers of my childhood. My grandparents own a house on the East Shore, and to this day, it’s my favorite place in the whole world.

“Forever Evergreen was everything I hoped for and more! This small-town summer romance delivered all the feels: family drama, laugh-out-loud one-liners, sweet emotional moments, and even a few scenes that had me tearing up. I devoured this book, constantly telling myself just one more chapter.”

“Forever Evergreen by E.M. Langston is a beautifully written, emotionally cozy story full of heart, healing, and holiday charm. Set in a small town that feels like it was plucked straight out of a Hallmark movie, this book pulled me in with its comforting vibe and endearing characters.

The romance is sweet and slow-building, and the emotional arcs felt authentic without being too heavy. I really appreciated how Langston explored themes of grief, second chances, and finding your way back to yourself after loss. The writing had a gentle, lyrical quality that added to the story’s warmth.

If you love small towns & heartfelt romance, Forever Evergreen is a lovely addition to your TBR. I’ll definitely be reading more from E.M. Langston!”

Goodreads Rating 4.1

“Scorching Summit by E.M. Langston is the delightful second entry in the series, and it’s every bit as fun, flirty, and heartwarming as fans could hope for. Picking up the tone and charm of the first book, it deepens the series world while introducing a romance that feels fresh, playful, and completely addictive.

The chemistry between the main couple practically leaps off the page — full of witty banter, laugh-out-loud moments, and that slow build of tension that keeps you reading “just one more chapter.” At the same time, the author grounds the story with genuine emotion, giving both leads personal growth arcs that make their happy-ever-after feel well-earned.

What really makes this sequel shine is how it ties back to the first book while still standing strong on its own. Familiar characters pop up in ways that feel like catching up with old friends, and the setting of the summit itself adds a fun, slightly adventurous vibe that makes the romance sizzle even more.

If you’re a fan of contemporary romance that blends humor, sweetness, and swoon-worthy moments, Scorching Summit is a perfect pick. It’s the kind of story that leaves you smiling long after you’ve turned the final page.”
